Reproductive Health Anatomy For Teen Pregnancy Prevention Programs

The goal of this training is to provide a general overview of core concepts related to reproductive health as it relates to teen pregnancy prevention.

Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to describe reproductive biology in a teen-friendly way.
  • Participants will be able to describe the link between brain development, hormones, physical maturation, sexual exploration, and teen pregnancy.
  • Participants will be able to list the most common barrier and hormonal contraceptives used by teens and summarize how they work.
  • Participants will describe symptoms and treatments for common bacterial and viral sexually transmitted infections & diseases, including HIV/AIDS.

At least one person from each program will need to attend.

Rena P. Dixon, PhD, MPH, MCHES

Director of Health Services, South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy

Rena Dixon, PhD, MPH, MCHES, joined the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (SC Campaign) in 2010. As a member of the Capacity Building Department, she provides training and technical assistance for priority populations and healthcare providers.

Dr. Dixon is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist and is active within the American Public Health Association. Before coming to the SC Campaign, Rena worked for Planned Parenthood of Georgia and for the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Dr. Dixon completed a doctorate of philosophy degree in community health education and health promotion in public health from Walden University in 2014. She received a masters of public health and a bachelor of science degree in health sciences with a minor in Latin American studies from Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia.
